James C. Dragon has had a number of triumphs as a business owner and managing partner. Dragons purchased a half-empty shopping mall called Central Plaza in 2000, which was in dire need of repair and redevelopment. It was a 266,000-square-foot property with a commercial component of 94,000 square feet. As part of its collaboration with the City of Lowell, Dragon has made significant capital renovations to the Central Plaza to enhance its commercial attractiveness. A Stop & Shop grocery shop operated out of the plaza until 1979, when it was sold. Between 1979 and 2000, the plaza was controlled by two different corporations before Dragon and his wife seized control of it. It was the aim of the Dragons to create a retail complex that would serve the needs of inhabitants of Lowell. As a registered commercial real estate agent, William Dragon helped James and Effie Dragon build a plaza that was not only fully occupied, but also sustained that occupancy during the coronavirus epidemic. Property in the heart of Lowell, Massachusetts, changed hands for approximately $11 million by the year 2021.

Dragon has played on amateur baseball teams in Lowell for numerous years, in addition to being a part-owner of the New Bedford Bay Sox. He also coached young basketball teams in Tewksbury, as well as founding and coaching Tewksbury's first American Legion baseball club, which made the playoffs by year two.
